Rev. Henry E. Green Jr. was born a son of the parsonage to Presiding Elder Henry and Mrs. Irene Green in Orlando, Florida. He is the second of five children and was educated in the public schools in Orlando. He also attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia and B.F. Lee Seminary at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida. Rev. Green earned a Bachelors of Science in Business and a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He also received the honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Jackson Theological Seminary at Shorter College in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Rev. Green is an Itinerant Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and has pastored many congregations in the Eleventh Episcopal District, having served in Florida for over 30 years. He is the visionary leader who led the $6 million building project of the new complex at Mount Hermon AME Church in Miami Gardens. He also served as the Presiding Elder in the Eleventh Episcopal District of both the Tampa and South districts of the West Coast Conference and South Conference, respectively. He is the former Pastor of Mount Hermon AME Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He presently serves as the Presiding Elder of the Celebrated Central District of the South Conference.
Rev. Green is characterized as an electrifying preacher and a soul stirring evangelist and has preached in conferences and churches all over the world. He had the privilege as a young man to preach with Archbishop Desmond Tutu during Religious Emphasis Week at Stetson University in Deland, Florida in 1987. He also was honored to preach during the 46th Quadrennial Session of the General Conference of AME Church in 2000.
Rev Henry E. Green, Jr. is active in his community and has served and continues to serve on many boards. Currently, he serves on the Board of Trustees of Edward Waters University, the United Way of Dade County, and the NAACP. He is also a longstanding member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Notably, Reverend Green was the first Connectional President of the Sons of Allen Ministry of the AME Church.
Rev. Green is one who recognizes the importance of family and of serving God. He has great love and respect for his siblings, Minerva Olivia Green, Rev. Dr. John Green, Bishop Samuel L. Green, Sr. and the Rev. Dr. David W. Green. Rev Henry Green, Jr. is married to the love of his life, the lovely Jennifer Cason Green of Live Oak, Florida. They are the proud parents of two sons: Rev. Henry E. Green, III and Rev. Philip Michael Green. His elder son, Henry, is married to Heather Banks; they have two sons, London and Henry IV, who are Grandpa’s pride and joy.
The Celebrated Central District is comprised of twenty (20) churches located in South Florida service seven (7) of the sixty-seven (67) counties of the State of Florida.
The Celebrated Central District of the South Conference in the Eleventh Episcopal District covers the geographical area from:
Deerfield including all of Broward County to North Dade, that is North Miami Beach and Miami Gardens of Miami-Dade County.
